Yacht without any doubt is one of the best activities that mankind ever invented. Imagination creates a snow-white beauty somewhere on azure coast: sea, sun, freedom!
But them majority sighs bitterly and forget this dream considering it unreal. The matter is in myths forming opinion about yachting in two extreme ways – “sea dogs” struggling with waves and wind somewhere in rough seas or multi million “Abramovich yachts”.
Golden mid – cruise sailing yachts that became a favorite activity for millions of people throughout the world.
Having dispelled these myths you will love yachting as we do!
You will be surprised that a week under sails can be compared with 3-4* hotel. If you book a berth in a cabin or rent yacht for group of 8 persons then you spent for accommodation from 300 euro per week.
You receive not only accommodation as in a hotel room but possibility to see the country from sea, such as you have never seen it before. Every day you visit new towns and bays, restaurants and shops, uphill castles and nature parks; you will never see such clear water close to touristic centers.
Practically all maritime countries have charter companies where you can rent a yacht. Price dependently on season, type and size of yacht – from 1800 euro per week: admit that it’s a rather comprehensible price even if you travel in a couple, not saying about group of 6-8 persons. Completely equipped with all necessary for life and sailing, insured for any emergency situation, your yacht will be waiting for you in any region you wish.
We won’t keep it in secret that everyone who sails off at sea starts to dream about own yacht. But it’s quite another story.
To handle a sailing yacht you need a skipper’s license. There are two ways out – to pass a three week training course or hire an experienced captain who sailed a hundred seas, knows every quay in sailing region and may not only work out a route but show a restaurant with the best cuisine on coastline, can tell about history and traditions, be your guide, train you skills of handling a sailing yacht.
If you decide to pass training – we will assist you with pleasure!
Myth that sailing on yacht is complicated has several reasons – weather, construction of yacht and swell.
Weather. When planning any trip on yacht one should select optimal time with comfort temperature, calm sea and “sailing wind”. Sailing takes place close to coastline - it’s more interesting and safe because you cam always hide in bay away from strong wind and waves. Even in the hottest months it’s much more cooler on yacht then on land – you’re blown by a breeze.
Construction of yacht. Modern cruise yachts have everything for comfort life within weeks or even months: electricity, hot water, toilet, shower, fully equipped galley. Cabins on yacht are not so large as hotel rooms but as a rule this space is used only for storage of thins and sleep. The most interesting things happen in other zones: in mess room inside the yacht or in cockpit where all crew gathers for briefings, breakfasts-lunches-dinners or just to have a talk.
More detailed description about life on yacht you can read in section “About yachting”.
Swell and seasickness. For some reason everyone is afraid to be sea sick, even though they never felt sick in airplanes, cars or cruising caters. We can’t say that such problem does not exists but it’s too exaggerated. Sailing yacht does not jump on waves even during surge of the sea – keel and sails stabilize it. On two-hulled yachts – catamarans – swell is much less because of two floaters. Time for the trip and route are chosen in such a way in order to avoid storm or in case of strong heave to hide in protected haven.
During ages of sailing some little tricks to fight sea sickness were invented - water with lemon, ginger or a glass of cognac. When yacht is under way it’s better not to stay in cabin, all the more for it’s boring there, but participate in yacht handling, 100% remedy from sea sickness – to take the helm.
Storm and weather topic were discussed above – yacht tours are planned in order to avoid unpleasant weather surprises. Other dangers on yachts are easy to overcome if follow minimal safety instructions: not to stay on aft during the turn (in order boom not to hit your head), choose comfortable shoes that does not slip and be careful when heeling and swelling, in order not to fall overboard; to buy protective gloves in order not to harm skin on hands; don’t forget about protection from sun.
More detailed information about proper equipment read in section “Useful information”.
In act of God problems with health helps to solve insurance company, coastguard in yachting regions works without a hitch, besides according to maritime law and tradition all vessels passing by are obliged to render assistance.
Despite of widespread opinion, cruise yachts seldom sail in open seas. They sail along coastline – it’s much more interesting, comfort and safe.
Route is planned without long passages but with enough time for local sightseeing, lunches and dinners, shopping, swimming and rest.
There happens something on yacht all the time; these people are not just passengers, it’s a crew that actively participates in yacht handling: sailing off, sails work, turns, dockings. For the time of sailing there surely will be given instructions and training – from safety to man overboard rescue.
